Introduction to Genocide Studies – Part II
Course Overview:
This 8-day online course, conducted by the Sowaka Harshita Foundation, serves as Part II of the previous Genocide course and is designed to provide learners with a deeper understanding of genocide studies. The course introduces participants to various definitions of genocide proposed by genocide theorists, the United Nations definition on the Prevention of Atrocities and Genocide, and an Indic definition of genocide, including the concept of Jatividhwasho.
The course places special emphasis on the question of Islamic Jihad and Genocide, covering Africa and the Indian subcontinent, Islamic invasion and genocide, the dramatic account of the first invasion of Sindh through Chachnama, the seven exodus of Kashmiri Hindus, and the relationship between Jihad, slavery, and genocide. Participants will engage with lectures, discussions, and historical analyses to explore these themes in depth.

What You Will Learn:
The course will be taught using Video Lectures, Presentations, Articles, and Course Materials covering the following:
- Discuss and articulate the important definitions of genocide.
- Distinguish and differentiate the Indic definition from the definition given by Raphael Lemkin and others in the West.
- Articulate the concept of Islamic Jihad and how it created genocide in Kashmir.
- Discuss how Jihad enslaved the non Islamic population in Africa, with special reference to male castration and the Indian sub continent.
Course Schedule:
The classes are more or less 1 hour 15 minutes, but if the discussion continues, it can take a longer time and may spill over to the next class. Also, some courses may spill over depending on the pace of the classes. Also, each week examples from The Great Calcutta killing, Noakhali genocide, Kashmiri Hindu genocide will be given.

Course Requirements:
- It is recommended that you attend all the lectures.
- All lectures will be available online in case you miss a class.
- Each class will be a combination of discussion and lectures and dialogical.
- On the last day students are required to do a short presentation on any one topic covered in class.
- Presentation Duration: 10 minutes presentation and then discussion.
- Students will be provided with a form for course evaluation, which they will fill up and submit.
Certification:
Upon completion of this course, an online certificate will be given to the learners by the Sowaka Harshita Foundation.
Instructor Bio:
Dr. Rinita Mazumdar is a Full-Time Philosophy Instructor, author, and researcher based in New Mexico, USA. She holds a Ph.D. from Massachusetts and has dedicated her academic career to the study of philosophy, social thought, cultural identity, and genocide studies. As the Director of the Sowaka Harshita Foundation, Dr. Mazumdar is committed to advancing research, education, and public awareness on issues related to genocide, civilizational history, and social justice. Her interdisciplinary scholarship, extensive teaching experience, and ongoing research make her a compelling and insightful instructor for this course.
